Niagara Falls is open year-round — but what's actually running depends entirely on when you go. The boat rides don't operate in winter. The fireworks only run May through October. Some attractions close after Thanksgiving and don't reopen until spring.

We've put together a guide for every month of the year so you know exactly what to expect before you book.

Pick Your Month

January — Ice formations, thin crowds, low prices. More open than you'd think.

February — Deep winter. Valentine's Day illuminations. The gorge at its most dramatic.

March — The thaw begins. Cave of the Winds reopens. Spring break picks up late month.

April — Boat rides return. High spring flow. The gorge trail comes alive.

May — Fireworks season starts. Everything opens. The sweet spot before summer crowds.

June — Early summer. Full attractions. Best window before peak season hits.

July — Peak season. Canada Day and July 4th fireworks. Plan ahead.

August — Busiest month of the year. Everything running. Arrive early.

September — The secret month. Crowds drop, prices fall, everything still open.

October — Fall foliage in the gorge. Last fireworks of the season October 12.

November — Quiet season begins. Winter Festival of Lights starts mid-month.

December — Festival of Lights in full swing. Holiday fireworks. New Year's Eve double show.
