What's Open in Niagara Falls in November

November is the quiet month — until mid-November, when the Winter Festival of Lights transforms the Canadian side into one of the largest light festivals in North America. If you're visiting for the Festival, the timing window is mid-November through early January.

Crowds are genuinely thin in November outside of the Festival area. Prices are low. And the Falls are still fully viewable — they don't close.

Illumination

The Falls are lit every night from dusk (around 5:15–5:30pm in November) through midnight.

Fireworks — Winter Festival of Lights

The Winter Festival of Lights fireworks run on the Canadian side starting November 15:

  • November 15 – December 20: Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm
  • December 25 – January 4: Nightly at 8:00pm

The Festival features over 8 kilometers of illuminated displays along the Niagara Parkway — it's free to walk and drive through.

Local Tips for November

The Winter Festival of Lights is genuinely impressive. Eight kilometers of illuminated displays is not a small thing. It runs from the Fallsview area through Dufferin Islands, and the Dufferin Islands section in particular is worth the walk. It's free.

Thanksgiving weekend at the Falls. American Thanksgiving brings a wave of families who use the long weekend to visit. If that's you, expect longer lines at Journey Behind the Falls and Power Station on Friday and Saturday.

The Falls in November mist. Cold air plus warm water equals heavy mist season. On cold November days, the mist plume from Horseshoe Falls can be visible from miles away. It's atmospheric in a way that summer visits rarely are.

Indoor attractions are underrated. The Power Station tunnel tour, Journey Behind the Falls, and the Butterfly Conservatory are all weather-independent and excellent. November is a great month to do all three in a single day.
